SOUTH KINGSTOWN — A 28-year-old local man was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to violating probation by possessing child pornography.

Vincent J. Siravo pleaded no contest in Superior Court last Wednesday to a charge that he possessed thousands of still and video images of prepubescent children with adults and other children, according to police.

The police found the images in April after executing search warrants on his 40 South Rd. home, computer zip drive and his mother’s house in Narragansett, according to Sgt. James Tierney.

The investigation began after Siravo’s ex-girlfriend turned his zip drive in to police following his arrest for domestic assault in March.

At the time, Siravo was on probation for felony domestic assault two years earlier.

Last week Judge Stephen P. Nugent sentenced Siravo to serve two years in the Adult Correctional Institutions and a two-year suspended sentence for violating probation from the 2006 case, said Sgt. Mark R. Healy.

Siravo received a five-year suspended sentence with probation after pleading no contest to possession of child pornography. That term is consecutive to his violation sentence, Healy said.

In addition, Siravo received a one-year suspended sentence with probation after pleading no contest to domestic simple assault. That sentence is consecutive to that in the child-pornography charge, said Michael J. Healey, spokesman for the attorney general.

The judge ordered Siravo not to use the Internet unsupervised other than for educational purposes for the duration of his sentence, Healey said.

He must enroll in an inpatient substance treatment program at the Phoenix House for one year upon his release, Healey said. He can no longer possess any weapons and cannot have contact with the victim of the two assaults.

Siravo was represented by lawyer William J. Murphy, who is the speaker of the state House of Representatives. Special Assistant Attorney General Mark Trovato prosecuted the case.
