Perryville car show is Sunday
01:16 PM EDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009
More than 100 antique cars are expected to be on view at the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn in Matunuck, when the land trust celebrates "Perryville Days” Sunday.
There’s quite a party planned on the South Kingstown Land Trust grounds on Sunday.
The main feature will be the fourth annual Perryville Antique Car Show, with more than 100 autos scheduled to be displayed. A parade of the cars is scheduled to set off from Perryville at around 10:30 a.m., stop briefly at the Carpenter’s Grist Mill on Moonstone Beach Road and arrive at the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn at around 11:30 a.m.
The show opens to the public at noon and, in addition to the cars, there will be music by the Perryville Country Band, displays about the history of Perryville and antique quilts, a market place and silent auction and fixings including South County Jonnycakes, chowder and ice cream from the restored Good Humor Ice Cream truck.
At 1 p.m., Laura Furlong is organizing a vintage fashion show using costumes from her collection of clothes from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s.
“She’s a sweet young lady and it’s the first year we’ve done this and it’s going to be wonderful,” said Diane Smith who co-chairs the show with her husband, Bob.
Special guest is cartoonist and Rhode Island character Don Bousquet, who will present his own award to an antique car of his choice.
The show is open from noon to 4 p.m. at 17 Matunuck Beach Rd., Matunuck. Admission is free; donations to the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society and Museum are welcome. For more information, phone (401) 783-5483.
