Clothing collection: The town will host a clothing collection, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Smithfield Public Works Garage, 3 Spragueville Rd., behind Dave’s Towing Service. All clothing collected will be donated to Big Sisters of Rhode Island. For more information, call (401) 233-1034.
Car wash: Smithfield Vikings’ football players and cheerleaders will host a car wash Sept. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at Sovereign Bank on Putnam Pike to raise money for their organization. There is a $5 donation per vehicle.

Town Libraries
East Smithfield Public Library, 50 Esmond St., will host a Photoshop workshop, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to enhance and manipulate photos.
A Nighty-Night story time, for children age 3 to 6, will begin Sept. 17 at 6:15 p.m. at the library. The program will feature stories, finger plays, songs, and crafts. Children may wear their pajamas and bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal. No registration is needed for this event.
Homework help is available at the library on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3 to 8 p.m., and Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. Library personnel will assist in utilizing the best reference resources for your homework. No registration is required. To access homework help from home, go to the library’s homepage and click on the Young Adult (Y/A) Teen Page, and under Reference, click on either the Online Reference Home Help or Schoolwork and Research/EBSCO Databases link.

Greenville Public Library, 573 Putnam Pike, will host a wellness workshop on headaches with Dr. Herbert Curtis Jr., Sept. 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The library is looking to restart its Teen Advisory Library Council. Teens are welcome to help plan programs and choose items to add to the collection. A meeting will be held Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. Teens can fill community service hours for school.
Dr. Michael E. Bell will be at the library Sept. 14 from 2 to 3 p.m. to give a talk on Apple Orchards of Rhode Island. The talk will include the yearly cycle of planting, pruning, spraying, thinning, harvesting and marketing.
A computer program will be offered on how to navigate the mouse and use a keyboard, Sept. 15 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The library’s teen book discussion group “Yak and Snack Book Chat” will meet Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
All Children’s Theatre will offer acting classes at the library on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Classes will begin Sept. 18, with the final class and performance of The Sound of Music on Nov. 8.
The library offers teens the chance to play on a Nintendo Wii game on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. The program is for middle and high school-aged young adults.
The Baker After-School Center at the library has reopened. The after-school center is open Monday through Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. The space is reserved for teens, with access to 16 computers, and a number of tables to use for group projects.

Smithfield YMCA is enrolling members and nonmembers for all Fall I programs. Fall programs include parent and child swim lessons, preschool and youth swim lessons, youth soccer and baseball, pre-K enrichment program, preschool playgroups, yoga, Pilates, boot camp, and before- and after-school care.
