Holiday notice: Recycling, trash and yard-waste collection for the town will be on a holiday schedule Oct. 13 though 18 in honor of Columbus Day.

All waste will be collected one day later than residents’ regular collection day.

Model train show: A two-day model train show featuring three operating layouts will be held Oct. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Smithfield Elks, 326 Farnum Pike.

There will be a Thomas the Tank Engine layout and dealer sales tables.

The cost is $5 adults; $4 for children age 12 to 5; and free for children under age 5. The event is sponsored by the Little Rhody Division of the National Model Railroad Association.

Library Programs

Greenville Public Library, 573 Putnam Pike, will host a program for young adults. Participants can learn how to make easy afterschool snacks, Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Smithfield’s Recycling Coordinator, Gina Barbeau, will present a program on how to recycle and reduce household waste, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to noon.

The program is free and open to the public.

A flu clinic will be held Oct. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call to set-up an appointment.

East Smithfield Public Library, 50 Esmond St., will host a PhotoShop workshop Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

An Art Workshop: Holidays of the World, for children age 6 to 10, will be held Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

A Teen Read Café will be held Thursday at 7:15 p.m. The program is for teens in grades 6 and up.

The library will host Tasty Treats, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Participants will be involved in preparing food. The group will make salsa, nachos, and shish kabobs.

Share-A-Story book group, for children in grades 4 and 5, will meet Oct. 23 from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.

The RISD Museum will present Worlds of Wonder with Meris, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program is for children from kindergarten to grade 5.
