Community Briefs

Plant sale: Gentian Garden Club will host its fall plant sale, Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Community House, Route 116. The sale will feature a wide variety of perennials, wildflowers, and herbs from member’s gardens. Proceeds from the sale will be used for programs that beautify and educate surrounding communities.

Bike tour: Scituate Rotary Club’s annual Scenic Scituate Bike Tour will be held Saturday. The tour offers four routes of 13, 27, 51 or 71 miles. Check in is from 7 to 9 a.m.; riders proceed along the route of their choice at their own pace. The tour begins and ends in the parking lot opposite North Scituate Community House, 546 West Greenville Rd. Route maps, rest stops, refreshments and rider support along the routes by the CVS/Samaritan van, will be provided. The registration fee is $25 per rider, for teams or groups of 10 or more riders the fee is $20 per rider. Proceeds will support Scituate Rotary Club charities and projects. Private well water: A workshop on how to protect your private drinking water well will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the North Scituate Community House, Route 116. The program is free and open to the public. The workshop will be conducted by the URI Cooperative Extension Water Quality Program and the R.I. Department of Health. Library Programs

Hope Library, 374 North Rd., will host a craft/yard sale Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Table space is available for $25. The table rental registration deadline is Saturday.

The library will host the World of Wonder with Meris, Sept. 19 at 3:15 p.m. Children in grades 2 to 5 can explore Egypt through books and art and make Egyptian charms.

Clubs

Skyscrapers Amateur Astronomical Society will meet today at 7:30 p.m. at the Seagrave Observatory, 47 Peeptoad Rd. The public is invited to attend. For more information, visit www.theskyscrapers.org.

Public viewing at Seagrave Observatory is held every Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m., weather permitting.

Gentian Garden Club will meet Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the North Scituate Community House, 116 West Greenville Rd. The topic will be “The Art of Forcing Bulbs,” presented by Layanee DeMerchant. For more information on attending this session or joining the club, call Sharon Gainey, (401) 764-0373.
