Bike tour: Scituate Rotary Club’s annual Scenic Scituate Bike Tour will be held Sept. 6. The tour offers four routes of 13, 27, 51 or 71 miles. Check in is from 7 to 9 a.m.; riders proceed along the route of their choosing at their own pace. The tour begins and ends in the parking lot opposite the North Scituate Community House, 546 West Greenville Rd. The club provides route maps, rest stops, refreshments and rider support along the routes by the CVS/Samaritan van. The registration fee is $25 per rider; for teams, or groups of 10 or more riders, the fee is $20 per rider. Proceeds will support Scituate Rotary Club charities and projects. Citizens’ Police Academy: Scituate Police Department will conduct its 11th annual Citizens’ Police Academy starting Sept. 10. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. Topics will include accident investigation, arrest/search and seizure, criminal investigation, domestic violence issues, patrol operations, traffic enforcement, firearms instruction and use of force. Applications are available at the Scituate Police Department, 116 Main St., Hope, or online at www.scituateri.org. Applications must be returned to the Police Department no later than Sept. 3. Plant sale: Gentian Garden Club will host its fall plant sale, Sept. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Community House, Route 116. The sale will feature a wide variety of perennials, wildflowers, and herbs from member’s gardens. Proceeds from the sale will be used for programs that beautify and educate surrounding communities. Trinity Thrift Shop, 36e Danielson Pike, is holding a fill a bag for $5 sale on all store merchandise. The store is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held until Sept. 6.
Private well water: A workshop on how to protect your private drinking-water well will be held Sept. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the North Scituate Community House, Route 116. Registration in advance is required as space is limited. The program is free and open to the public. The workshop is conducted by the URI Cooperative Extension Water Quality Program and the state Department of Health. For more information, or to register, call (401) 874-4918.
Library Programs
Hope Library, 374 North Rd., will host a bookbinding class, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Learn how to create your own hand-bound books. The fee is $20 and includes all supplies.
Registration for story hour will begin Sept. 2 and continuing until programs are full. Programs will include preschool story hour, for children ages 3 to 5; Time for Two’s story hour, for children ages 2 and a caregiver; and Book Babies story hour, a program for children from birth to age 2 and a caregiver. Story hour will begin the week of Sept. 29.
The library will host a craft/yard sale Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Table space is available for $25. Proceeds from table rentals will benefit the library.
