Farmers Market: The Scituate Farmers Market is open on Saturdays, May 3 to Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Historic North Scituate Village on the Art Festival grounds, Route 116.

Library Programs

Hope Library, 374 North Rd., will host the spring fling craft and yard sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A book sale, will also be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Preschool story hour for children ages 3 to 5 will be held Mondays, May 12 and 19 at 10:30 a.m., or Tuesdays, May 6, 13, and 20, at 2 p.m.

Book Babies, a 20-minute program for children from birth to 24 months old, and a caregiver, will be held May 9 and 23 at 10:30 a.m.

Time for Twos, a 30-minute program for children age 2 and a caregiver, will be held May 9, 15 and 23 at 11:15 a.m.

The library will host a family movie May 10 at 1:30 p.m. The event will include a recently released movie and popcorn.

Club Note

Gentian Garden Club will meet May 20 at the Foster Country Club, 66 Johnston Rd. Cocktails and reception will start at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. Guests are invited. Reservations must be made and paid for by May 5. Tickets are $30.

A spring plant sale will be held May 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Community House, Route 116. The sale will feature a variety of perennials, wildflowers, vegetables and herbs that are all from members’ gardens. Money raised from this event will be used for programs that beautify and educate surrounding communities.

People

Gabe Fine, a student at Scituate High School, was selected as one of the top two performers in the Amgen 2008 Rhode Island Science and Engineering Fair held recently at CCRI in Warwick. Gabe moves on to the highest level of competition at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta.

Alana Mercurio, of Scituate High School, received a full-tuition scholarship from Roger Williams University, to cover four years of study at Roger Williams. In addition, Curran will receive $1,000 annually to purchase textbooks. The scholarship is to encourage young women to pursue careers in science and technology.
