Spring sale: The United Methodist Women of Shepherd of the Valley Church will hold their annual spring rummage sale today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 to 11 a.m. at the church, 604 Seven Mile Rd. The Saturday sale will feature a fill a brown bag for $2 sale. For more information, call (401) 821-8217.
Lawn sale: Friends of the Scituate Shelter, Hands that Heal, will host a lawn sale tomorrow and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 103 Peeptoad Rd., to raise money for two organizations. Donations of new or used items are appreciated. For more information, call (401) 647-1488.
Library Programs
Hope Library, 374 North Rd., will host Natalie Babbitt author of Tuck Everlasting, Kneeknock Rise and Jack Plank Tells Tales, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.
A create-a-book workshop will be held April 30 at 5 p.m. Learn to make a book using chipboard, cover papers, and book cloth. Class fee is $20 and includes materials.
The library will host a book sale May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Books, magazines, children’s books, videos, and audio books will be available. A spring fling craft and yard sale will also be held May 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Table rentals are available for $25.
The library’s annual association meeting will be held May 13 at 7 p.m. Phillip Contic, costume designer/senior lecturer at Brown University, will give a brief talk about using art books as a research source for theater design. The library will also officially open the Phillip Contic Arts and Fashion Book Collection, featuring art/fashion/theater books donated to the library. The public is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Club Note
Gentian Garden Club will meet May 20 at the Foster Country Club, 66 Johnston Rd. Cocktails and reception will start at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. Guests are invited. A trip to Longwood and Chanticleer Gardens and Winterthur estate in Wilmington, Del., is scheduled for June 20 to 22. A side trip is available to go to the Brandywine River Museum, home to artwork of three generations of Wyeths. The cost is $239 and includes transportation, hotel, garden entrance fees and taxes.
