Community Events

Candlelight stroll: The fifth annual Candlelight Stroll in North Scituate Village will be held Dec. 1 from 3 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 2 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Friday, Dec. 1, activities will include free horse-drawn wagon and trolley rides from 4 to 8 p.m.

Events will include items for sale at the Community House. Participants can make a holiday ornament at North Scituate Elementary School. Family photos will be taken at the gazebo from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Story hour will be held at the library at 6 p.m. A live nativity will be set up at North Scituate Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m., and caroling begins at 7.

St. Joseph’s Church will feature a bazaar with crafters and a bake sale. Trinity Episcopal Church will hold its winter wonderland bazaar.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, activities include breakfast with Santa, Sparky the fire dog and Smoky the Bear at the North Scituate Village Fire Station. Call (401) 647-7773 for ticket information. Santa will be at the Community House from 1 to 4 p.m. The lighting of the Christmas tree at the gazebo will held at 4:15 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the North Scituate Village Business Association.

Holiday program and bazaar: Hope Library, 374 North Rd., will hold a holiday program and bazaar Dec. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature crafts, stories and refreshments. Santa Claus will visit. For information, call (401) 821-7910.

Scituate green space project: Residents are asked to help identify Scituate’s important recreational and scenic resources Dec. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hope Barn, Ryefield Road.

Paid for by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, the Providence Water Supply Board and the National Park Service, this project serves to identify and map all the natural, cultural and recreational resources that Scituate residents determine are important. Library Programs

Hope Library, 374 North Rd., will hold a raffle for a handmade Sunbonnet Sue calendar quilt. Tickets are $5, and only 100 tickets will be sold. The quilt is on display at the library. The drawing will be held Dec. 21 at 4 p.m.

The adult knitting group meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. New members and all skill levels are welcome.

The sewing club will meet Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn to sew, or bring a project and work on it in a group setting. All skill levels are welcome.

A gingerbread house decorating program will be held Dec. 9. Parent and child pairs are invited to decorate their own house. The program begins at 11 a.m. Materials will be supplied. Space is limited, and registration is required. A fee of $10 per house is due at registration.

North Scituate Public Library, 606 West Greenville Rd., will host a flu clinic, Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. Hillside Family Medicine staff will administer flu shots. Medicare patients need to bring their card. All others will be charged $25, and will have to file a claim with their insurance company. No appointment is necessary

The library’s book club meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Dec. 11. For information, call (401) 647-5133.

Club News

The Scituate Senior Center, 1315 Chopmist Hill Rd., is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 10 a.m.

Lunch is served at noon by reservation. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.
