Town Charter topic of Oct. 22 Richmond meeting

RICHMOND –– The Clark Memorial Library will sponsor an “informational tea” on Oct. 22 to discuss the proposed Town Charter, up for a vote on Nov. 4.
The event will be held at the library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, at 7 p.m.
Charter Commission members will be present to discuss the proposed charter and answer questions from the public.
Members of the commission are also sponsoring a youth poster contest, “What Freedom and Self-Determination Mean To Me,” to raise awareness of the election, government, and the proposed charter.
Posters must be delivered by Oct. 20 to Lynn Thompson ( lythom@gmail.com), Clark Memorial Library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, Carolina, RI 02812.
Posters will be judged at the Oct. 22 meeting based on originality, impact, and use of the theme message.
The tea and the judging are open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

Firs-place winners from each age group will receive a $25 cash prize. The Best Show poster will receive an additional $25 cash prize.
Posters will be displayed in local Richmond businesses.
Contest Guidelines:
• Submissions restricted to residents of Richmond;
• One entry per child.
• Posters will be judged in 3 groups: Grades K-2; Grades 3-5; and Grades 6-8.
• Posters must be original artwork, hand drawn on 8½-by-11-inch paper.
Entries become property of the Charter Committee.
Include the child’s name, mailing addresss, grade, contact telephone number and name of parent or guardian, and the parent or guardian’s signature.
