Westerly man indicted for molestation
01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2008
A Washington County grand jury last week indicted Andrew Durfee, 21, of 5 Ichabod Lane, Westerly, on a charge of first-degree child molestation.
Investigators allege that in 2002 Durfee, then 15 years old, committed the crime on a victim who was 11 years old, said Michael Healey, a spokesman for the attorney general’s office. The alleged incident occurred in Westerly.
The victim did not report the incident until last November, by which time Durfee was 20, which is why he is being tried in Washington County Superior Court as an adult, Healey said.
Durfee will be arraigned on Aug. 4, according to the attorney general’s office.
The grand jury also indicted Ronald Crooker, 29, of 447 Gardiner Rd., Richmond, on one count of first-degree robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Investigators allege that Crooker robbed a victim with a metal pole on Feb. 18. The alleged incident occurred in Richmond.
Crooker’s arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 4 in Washington County Superior Court.
