Eaves says she’ll fill open seat on regional School Committee
01:00 AM EST on Wednesday, November 15, 2006
CHARLESTOWN — Holly M. Eaves, a self-employed electrical engineer, will fill the remaining seat on the Chariho Regional School Committee.
The two other seats from Charlestown went to incumbent Andrew J. Polouski and Andrew J. McQuaide, a recent Chariho graduate who launched a write-in campaign.
Eaves, who had tied in a write-in vote, confirmed she will accept the seat.
Eaves said she considered running for the School Committee in the past but family and work commitments conflicted. She has two middle school students.
“I’ve been playing with the idea for a long time,” Eaves said. Now, “I think I’m at a point where I can pull this off.”
Eaves had led an effort for Charlestown to pull out of the regional district, which includes Hopkinton and Richmond.
“But that’s not a driving factor for why I’m accepting this,” Eaves said. “That’s water under the bridge.”
Eaves said her focus would be to serve the district, the children and their educational opportunities.
She is a member of the town’s ad hoc Study Options Committee, which forwarded a report to the Town Council last month recommending the building plan – that will be presented to voters on Nov. 30 – focusing primarily on the high school.
