PROVIDENCE -- City police have identified the 12-year-old girl who was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night as Tatiana McKinney of 841 Atwells Ave., Providence.
She remains in critical condition today in the intensive-care unit in Rhode Island Hospital, according to police.
The alleged driver, Juan D. Aguirre, 67, of 7 Brook St., North Providence, has been charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident, serious bodily injury resulting.
A tearful Aguirre was arraigned this morning in District Dourt and released on $5,000 bail with surety.
Police said Tatiana tried to cross Atwells Avenue at 11 p.m. Sunday when a car struck her and drove away.
A witness was able to provide the police with a description of the car, and Aguirre was arrested yesterday at his North Providence apartment after the police received a tip who recognized the vehicle's description.
