Three Providence Armory District organizations invites the public to join hands for one ‘joyful’ night
01:00 AM EST on Thursday, December 4, 2008
Three community organizations operating in Providence’s Westside — Leadership Rhode Island, West Broadway Neighborhood Association and Connect Providence — are inviting the public to join them for door-to-door holiday caroling in the Armory District on Sunday, Dec. 21.
"2008 has been such a tough year for so many I hope that Westside neighbors and anyone else interested in holiday cheer will help us spread some end-of-the-year joy though song," said event organizer, Armory District resident and self-proclaimed "bad singer," Mike Ritz.
The evening will begin at Loie Fuller’s restaurant, 1455 Westminster St., from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by door-to-door caroling from 6 to 8 and end with hot beverages at Leadership Rhode Island.
This event will be the first time these three groups have come together.
•The West Broadway Neighborhood Association, 1560 Westminster St., has been preserving and promoting the "community as a safe, vibrant, and sustainable place to live, work, and play" for more than 20 years.
• Connect Providence, 341 Broadway, has been hosting free monthly social gatherings throughout the city for the last four years, boasting of 75 to 100 attendees per event.
• Leadership Rhode Island, 1570 Westminster St., the area’s newest neighbor, recently moved from Providence’s East Side to establish headquarters in the former Victorian office of Armory Properties in November.
Interested merry-makers are encouraged to contact event organizer Mike Ritz by phone at (401) 490-0206 or by email at info@eyeofprovidence.org. Ritz states that no one need worry about the quality of his or her voice — "there is strength in numbers."
