Nigerian Independence Day
01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, October 11, 2007

Lateef Yusuff, 13, carries a banner in a parade yesterday on Broad Street in Providence celebrating Nigeria’s independence 47 years ago from Great Britain on Oct. 1. The parade, sponsored by the Nigerian Community of Rhode Island, drew a crowd of about 100, most of whom stayed in cars and beeped their horns. The parade traveled from Central High to Roger Williams Park.
