Cape Verdean Community
“Coming Home” is the theme of the Cape Verdean Independence Day Celebration as it returns to the newly reopened India Point Park on Sunday, from noon to dusk. Sponsored by the Cape Verdean subcommittee of the R.I. Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, the festival commemorates the 34th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cape Verde.
Cultural, health and educational booths will be featured, as well as traditional music, dance, food, arts and crafts and children’s activities.
Exhibits based on the festival’s “Coming Home” theme will be presented throughout the day at the Cultural Tent by the Cape Verdean American Development organization of Pawtucket, the Cape Verdean Museum Exhibit of East Providence and the Fox Point Cape Verdean Project of Providence. The Philosophy Connection will meet Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. at the R.I. Pride Center, 180 Allens Ave., Providence.
