Soccer Festival: The African Alliance of Rhode Island (AARI) presents the 2007 Inter-Nations Soccer Festival Saturday through Monday at 10 a.m. at Merino Park, Hartford Avenue.

Nearly 20 teams from Africa, South America and the Caribbean will compete.

Miss RI Latina: Sasha Zacarias, 18, of Providence, won the title of Miss Rhode Island Latina during the 22nd annual contest at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, in Cranston. She will represent Rhode Island in the Miss Latina U.S. pageant next year.

Zacarias is a sophomore at the University of Rhode Island.

Volunteers sought: Everett Dance Theatre’s Carriage House School, an afterschool performing arts program that provides free classes for Providence youths, is seeking volunteers, including afterschool tutors, youth and family liaisons, video project coordinators, grant writers/researchers, graphic designers and people knowledgeable in marketing and publicity.

Applicants must be well-organized, motivated, committed and enjoy working with middle and high school students. They should have resumÉs and work samples.

CWE session: The Center for Women & Enterprise, 132 George M. Cohan Blvd., will hold a free information session on Friday, Sept. 7, from 9 to 10 a.m.

Participants will learn about the full range of services CWE provides, meet the staff and receive literature on business plans and how to get started.

Quit smoking: Commit To Quit, a 12-week program and smoking cessation research study for women, is being offered by researchers at The Miriam Hospital’s Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine and the East Side/Mt. Hope YMCA

Participants will receive a free, three-month membership to the East Side/Mt. Hope YMCA. For those who are already members of the YMCA, the study will pay for membership for three months.

Participants must be 18 to 65 years old, not regular exercisers and in good health. They will meet weekly with staff at the YMCA and will be divided into two groups — an exercise group and a health and wellness group. Those in the exercise group will be given a regimented exercise program to follow, while those in the health and wellness group will be taught about lifestyle changes, healthy eating strategies and stress management.

Anyone who wishes to use nicotine patches will be provided with them at no charge.

Recruitment for the study is ongoing.

St. Martin dePorres Center: The center at 160 Cranston St. offers weekly and monthly activities including bowling, bingo, crafts, fitness classes, Bible study, computer classes and lab.

Sept. 18 — Housing workshop to discuss guidelines for subsidized housing, 10 to 11:15 a.m.

Sept. 20 — Wright’s Farm trip, leaving at 11 a.m.

Sept. 25 — Coffee with Evercare, 10 a.m.

Sept. 25 — Baby picture contest.
