RIYP meeting: Rhode Island Young Professionals (RIYP) will meet today at 6 p.m. at the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation, 210 West Ave., Pawtucket.

Stimulus payments: Starting this week, John Hope Settlement House, 7 Thomas P. Whitten Way, will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 11 to process electronic stimulus payments for those who did not file.
Those eligible must have income of more than $3,000, not be a dependent on someone else’s tax return and must receive one of the following types of income: Social Security Retirement Benefits, Social Security Disability Benefits (SSDI) or Veteran’s Benefits.
The deadline for filing is Oct. 15.

International service: Victory Assembly of God, 321 Veazie St., will hold its annual International Service on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m.
An international luncheon will follow the service.

Cookout: The Providence External Review Authority (PERA) board members will hold a cookout on Saturday from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at PERA offices, 550 Broad St.

Open house: John Hope Settlement House, 7 Thomas P. Whitten Way, will host its annual open house from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
The event will include door prizes, raffles, heart-healthy food, Ghanaian West African drumming, a basketball game and blood pressure and cholesterol screening.
Registration will be open for before- and after-school childcare. Childcare is offered for toddlers to middle school-age children.
As a hub for families in Providence’s West End, Southside, Elmwood and Olneyville neighborhoods, John Hope Settlement House encourages all community members to participate in programs and services that promote good health and provides family opportunities, recreation, financial education and care for children.
Volunteers needed: Volunteers are needed on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and Thursday, Sept. 11, to build the Peace and Plenty Community Park, at the corner of Peace and Updike streets (behind St. Joseph Hospital).
The Friends of Peace and Plenty Community Park, in partnership with CommunityWorks RI (formerly the Elmwood Foundation and GENS) and the City of Providence Parks Department, have received a playground building grant from KaBoom! and Home Depot for the creation of a community park and playground in North Elmwood.
Food and entertainment will be provided.
