01:00 AM EST on Wednesday, November 15, 2006
PROVIDENCE — Mayor David N. Cicilline has announced that the city is accepting nominations for the fourth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Hall of Fame.
The mayor began the tribute in 2003, on the 40th anniversary of the civil rights march on Washington. The award recognizes people who have demonstrated their commitment to the teachings of non-violence. The selection committee will accept nominations until Dec. 7 and they must come in the form of a letter with details about the candidate’s qualifications. Include a contact name and information.
Two or three inductees are chosen and their names are engraved on a plaque in City Hall. A ceremony will be held on Jan. 16 in the Rhode Island Convention Center.
Letters of nomination should be addressed to Dr. Martin Luther King Hall of Fame Selection Committee, office of the city solicitor, 275 Westminster St., Providence, RI 02903.
