Blood drives: The Rhode Island Blood Center has scheduled the following blood drives:
•Monday — MET School, 365 Public St, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
•Tuesday — Providence College, Slavin Center, River and Eaton streets, noon to 7 p.m.
•Nov. 29 — Rhode Island College, Student Union, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Providence College, Slavin Center, noon to 7 p.m.
•Nov. 30 — EPOCH Assisted Living, donor coach, One Butler Ave., 1 to 4 p.m.

Philanthropy Day luncheon: The Association of Fundraising Professionals-Rhode Island Chapter held its annual luncheon honoring community philanthropists statewide yesterday. Governor and Mrs. Carcieri and Mayor David Cicilline were co-chairs. The following awards were presented:
Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation – Collette Vacations; Outstanding Philanthropic Organization – Rotary Club of Providence; Outstanding Philanthropic Business – Rhode Island Monthly Communications; and Outstanding Philanthropic Citizen – Gary St. Peter, principal with St. Peter & Kasle law firm of Providence.
The following were honored as Partners in Philanthropy:
•Children’s Friend and Service — Tonya Harms of North Providence. As marketing director of Panera, Harms has helped expand Panera’s support by hosting foster parent recruitment sessions and collecting toys for the Children’s Friend’s annual holiday Spirit of Giving campaign in bakery cafes and by being a lead sponsor of the Walk for Children each June.
•Literacy Volunteers of Providence County — George H. Quinn of North Providence. For 12 years, Quinn has been an exceptionally active volunteer with Literacy Volunteers of Providence County, spending hundreds of hours teaching English to adult speakers of other languages. He encourages his students to publish their writings in the organization’s newsletters. He supports fundraising events and helps new tutors by attending training sessions, answering questions and offering practical advice.
•Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance – Marisa Albanese of North Providence. She was selected for her leadership as a co-chair of the board of directors of the Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance. She has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the alliance’s mission. She has led the board for two years.
•AIDS Care Ocean State – Sister Ann Keefe of Providence. She is a member of St. Michael Ministry Team in Providence and a founding board member of FACTS House, one of the first pediatric AIDS programs in the country. She serves on several HIV housing committees and founded City Arts and the Peace Institute dedicated to eliminating street violence. She continues to give her time and efforts to help AIDS Care.
Brian K. Wyche of Providence, assistant vice president of retail banking at First Trade Union Bank in Boston. Twice a year, he helps produce fundraisers for the children of FACTS House Nursery. Since 2003, he has raised more than $10,000 and received more than 300 new toys for AIDS Care Ocean State clients.
•AIDS Project Rhode Island – Lon Cohen of Providence. An AIDS Project volunteer buddy since 2000, he acts as a companion, advocate and coach to a client. In addition to extending his commitment long beyond the required one-year time period, Cohen has gone above and beyond by taking his client into his own home and making him a part of his family.
Rose Pugliesi of Providence. After 42 years as the receptionist for the Providence office of the Social Security Administration, Pugliesi is a volunteer receptionist at AIDS Project Rhode Island. She was honored her for her reliable and energetic service.
•Butler Hospital – Melinda Knight of Providence. She served as co-chair for Butler Hospital’s first Real Stories, Real Recoveries luncheon with speaker Jane Pauley.
• Day One (formerly the Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center of Rhode Island) – Citizens Bank. Citizens Bank and Citizens Bank Foundation have supported many of Day One’s programs. Citizens Bank Foundation made the lead gift to Day One’s capital campaign.
•The Fund for Community Progress – Thomas L. G. Dwyer of Providence, a partner with The Fund for Community Progress for many years. Despite his duties as executive vice president, treasurer and CFO of Johnson & Wales University, he served on the fund’s board of directors and as treasurer.
•Moses Brown – Joan Sorensen of Providence. Her leadership gifts have revitalized Moses Brown’s signature campus buildings; she made a financial aid endowment and worked on the school’s fundraising campaign.
•Providence Children’s Museum – Jeffrey R. and Jennifer Massotti of Providence. He led the museum board with a careful eye on finances, and she brings her design expertise and enthusiasm to the museum’s special events. Together they have provided significant support as major donors.
•Providence Performing Arts Center – Americo Mallozzi of Providence. Mallozzi, dubbed PPAC’s resident architect by president Lynn Singleton, gives his professional expertise to the theater’s revitalization. He has helped realize numerous ideas for the growth and development of the theater’s facilities.
•The San Miguel School – Lawrence Hershoff, senior vice president and senior risk manager for RBS Asset Finance, Citizens Bank. His business acumen, values and compassion touch the lives of students, families and the San Miguel school community in many ways. He delivers dozens of bags of groceries several times each month. He purchased fleece jackets for the entire school, anonymously made donations when he learned of a family in crisis, and hosted fishing trips for students.
•St. Mary’s Home for Children – Rhode Island Women’s Bar Association. Members have become role models to eight teenage girls who reside in the pre-independent living program at St. Mary’s Home.
•State Ballet of Rhode Island – Citizens Bank of Providence has been a faithful supporter of Project Ballet in Education. This statewide program was created based on the belief that youths need arts experience to develop not only academically, but with an awareness and appreciation of the arts. This program brings the students to the ballet or the ballet to the students, many of whom may not otherwise have had or will have this experience.
Laurine Ryan Perry of Providence and the Martignetti Companies of Rhode Island Rhode Island have donated goods, services and time to State Ballet of Rhode Island events.
•Trinity Repertory Company – Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Providence Trinity Rep is a long-time partner with RISCA. The arts council RISCA serves as a catalyst for the advancement, appreciation and promotion of excellence in the arts by encouraging leadership, participation and education in the arts.
•The Wheeler School – Mary Eliot Owen Winsor of Providence, Class of 1927. Winsor is a member of Wheeler’s Heritage Society and through her leadership, the school’s preeminent donor group, the Founders Society. She enjoys the distinction of being one of the school’s longest and most consistent donors and is a frequent guest at alumni events and for campus visits.
•Girls Scouts of Rhode Island – Grace M. Donnelly of Providence. She has been active in Girl Scouting for 58 years. A former counselor at Camp Hoffman, she is a longtime annual donor and member of the Juliette Low Planned Giving Society. She is active as a volunteer for programs and events including the Senior Girl Scout Leadership Conference, Camping for a Cause and programs related to sciences. She is a biologist with Biospec.
AFP-RI, now in its 25th year, has hosted the event for the past 22 years.
