Global AIDS Quilt: Grace Church, 275 Westminster St., will display sections of the Global AIDS Quilt Thursday through Friday, Dec. 1, World AIDS Day. The display will open at 5 p.m. and a service of compline will be sung by the church choir at 7. A reception will follow. The event offers an opportunity for Gallery Night visitors to see the quilt in the quiet of of church.
The quilt is a multicultural tapestry of sections made in memory and tribute to those who have died of AIDS. The panels displayed this year are from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The quilt will be on display in Grace Church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving Day. It will end with the celebration of the U2 Eucharist with the music of the rock band. For information, call (401) 331-3225.
Gallery Night lecture: Morgan Grefe, director of the Rhode Island Historical Society’s Goff Center for Education and Public Programs, will present the third installment of its fall “If These Walls Could Talk. …” lecture series on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the society’s John Brown House Museum, 52 Power St.
Anyone who has wondered how the Browns and their contemporaries might have decorated their mansion for Christmas will enjoy Grefe’s exploration of historic holiday traditions in the American Colonies and early republic. Visitors will receive a 10-percent discount at the museum shop.

Red Cross courses: The Rhode Island chapter of the American Red Cross is offering the following courses at chapter headquarters, 150 Gano St.:
•Standard first aid with CPR/AED-adult, child, infant: The nine-hour course covers CPR and automated external defibrillation and first aid. The fee is $65.
The course is offered on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Dec. 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Dec. 6 and 7, 5 to 9:30 p.m.; Dec. 13 and 20, 5 to 9:30 p.m.; and Dec. 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
•First aid with CPR/AED-adult: The course covers adult CPR, automated external defibrillation and first aid. The fee is $60.
The course is offered on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
•Adult CPR/AED: The course includes training in the use of the automated external defibrillator. The fee is $45.
The course is offered on Monday and Nov. 29 and Dec. 14 and Dec. 21, 5 to 9:30 p.m.
•Standard first aid: The three-hour course is $40 and is offered on Nov. 28 and Dec. 12, 6 to 9 p.m.
•Babysitter training: The six-hour course costs $40 and is offered on Nov. 25, 9 a .m. to 3 p.m., and Dec. 16 and 17, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
•CPR for the professional rescuer: The six-hour course costs $75 and is offered on Dec. 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Healing service: A healing service for those of all faiths who have been affected by AIDS will be held Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Temple Beth-El meeting hall, 70 Orchard Ave.
It is presented every year by AIDS Quilt RI and The AIDS Task Force of The Jewish Federation of RI.This year’s theme is “Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise.” AIDS panels will be dedicated and on display during the service.

Grant: The Citizens Bank Foundation recently announced a $20,000 grant for the Providence Black Repertory’s Latin jazz series and Black History Month.
The Providence Black Repertory Company produces theater and education and public programs. The company aims to inspire the community, celebrate African-American artists and promote togetherness.
