ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB FUNDRAISER: Portsmouth High School’s Athletic Booster Club will hold a fundraising holiday event, “Fall Into the Holiday Season,” Nov. 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Glen Manor House, Coelho Drive. Included will be food and beverages donated by Blount Seafood, Foodworks restaurant and Matunuck Oysters, Anna D’s Cafe as well as wines from Greenvale, Newport and Sakonnet Vineyards.
Raffle sponsors are West Main Pizza, Peak Fitness, Escobar’s Christmas Tree Farm, Flint Audio Video, Arbonne Health & Wellness, Armor & Martel, Bill Sales Firewood, Baga’Dowe Sports Shop, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Carlone’s Florist, the Newport County Chamber of Commerce, Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club, Rhode Island Football Academy, Brick Alley Pub, Solstice Soap Works, DeCastro Farms, Custom House Coffee, Clements’ Market, Body Wise and the Valley Inn Restaurant, as well as PHS clothing and wine charms. CD RELEASE PARTY: Common Fence Music (CFM) will present the Rishell-Raines Blues Band CD Release Party Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. at the Common Fence Point Community Hall, 922 Anthony Rd. Tickets are $20 and available at the CFM Doors open at 7 pm. The performance will take place at the Common Fence Point Community Hall, 933 Anthony Road, Portsmouth, RI. HOLIDAY ART SHOW: The Portsmouth Arts Guild will open its second “Art Under $200” Holiday Show & Sale, Nov. 23 with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at its Center for Arts, 2679 East Main Rd. (next to St. Paul’s Church). Featured will be art in all media by regional artists. Stop by for affordable early gift buying and enjoy refreshments catered by Ladies Who Lunch. This event is free and open to the public. The show will continue through Dec. 21.
In addition to the show, there will be a “Gift Gallery Table Sale,” Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring cards, jewelry and small gift items.
Gallery hours are Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all Portsmouth Arts Guild commissions from this show will support the Eileen Gorton Shanley Scholarship Fund. HOLIDAY OPEN STUDIOS: East Main Studios, 2701 East Main Rd., will hold its “Holiday Open Studios” Nov. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. On display will be fine art created by studio resident artists as well as hand crafted items perfect for gift giving. Award winning artists participating are Jan Armor, photography; Donna Bruton, oil paintings and hand felted pins; Libby Gilpatric, oil and watercolor paintings, note cards, prints, ornaments, fantasy painted boxes, and picture frames; Nancy Isherwood, oil and pastel paintings, lithographs, decoupage boxes, note cards, and decoupage hand painted trays. Visiting artist Megan Buchanan will display hand painted scarves. Refreshments will be served.

TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY: The Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Rd., will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. The event is held to reflect on the meaning of the season and to honor the memories of loved ones. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

THANKSGIVING DAY DINNER: The Portsmouth United Methodist Church will host a Thanksgiving Day dinner for anyone who wishes to break bread together and share fellowship on this special day. The complimentary meal will be served with all the trimmings from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 27. The meal will be prepared and served by volunteers from the church.

HOLIDAY LUNCHEON: The National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 0869, will hold its holiday luncheon Dec. 2 at noon at 15 Point Rd. TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY: Boys Town New England will hold a Tree Lighting Ceremony Dec. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 58 Flanagan Rd., just across from the entrance to Raytheon Company on West Main Road, Route 114.
The public is invited to help share in this memorable tradition with the children of Boys Town New England., to sing carols around the Christmas tree and establish fond memories with friends and families. Following the tree lighting, visitors can warm up with hot chocolate and desserts, meet Boys Town children and families, and learn about Boys Town New England’s Continuum of Care as they tour the campus’ new Administrative Support and Family Services building.

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS: Portsmouth High School issued report cards to students Nov. 13. Students should have carried them home along with a notice about Parent Conferences to be held the week of Nov. 17. Parents are asked to fill out the form indicating which teachers they would like to meet. The student should return the form to the school on Monday and bring it to his or her teachers. The teachers will then book an appointment and write the information on the back of the form. The student will then bring the form back home to his or her parents.
