Walk and Talk: Aquidneck Land Trust will offer its next Land Matters Walk and Talk Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. along the Sakonnet Greenway Trail. The first phase of the trail, which is now completed, stretches about three miles from The Glen to the northern boundary of Newport National Golf Club.
Those planning to participate are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at the Brown House at Glen Farm, Route 138, East Main Road. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy shoes.

Basketball signups: Portsmouth Youth Basketball will hold on-line registration Nov. 15 at www.portsmouthyouthbasketball.com. Open to boys and girls in grades 2 through 8, the registration fee is $95 for all divisions – Rookies (grade 2), coed; NCAA (grades 3 and 4), individual girl and boy teams; Jr. NBA (grades 5 and 6), individual girl and boy teams; NBA (grades 7 and 8), individual girl and boy teams.
Those who have registered will receive an email the week of Nov. 17 containing detailed information regarding the Skills Evaluation scheduled for Dec. 6. Those with spam filters are asked to check their “junk e-mail” if they do not receive it, as it may be blocked by their filter. Athletic Booster Club fundraiser: Portsmouth High School’s Athletic Booster Club will hold a fundraising holiday event, “Fall Into the Holiday Season,” Nov. 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Glen Manor House, Coelho Drive. Included will be food and beverages donated by Blount Seafood, Foodworks restaurant and Matunuck Oysters as well as wines from Greenvale, Newport and Sakonnet Vineyards.
Raffle sponsors are West Main Pizza, Peak Fitness, Escobar’s Christmas Tree Farm, Flint Audio Video, Arbonne Health & Wellness, Armor & Martel, Bill Sales Firewood, Baga’Dowe Sports Shop, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Carlone’s Florist, Newport County Chamber of Commerce, Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club, Rhode Island Football Academy, Brick Alley Pub, Solstice Soap Works and DeCastro Farms as well as PHS clothing and wine charms. Holiday Open Studios: East Main Studios, 2701 East Main Rd., will hold its “Holiday Open Studios” Nov. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. On display will be fine art created by studio resident artists as well as hand crafted items perfect for gift giving. Award winning artists participating are Jan Armor, photography; Donna Bruton, oil paintings and hand felted pins; Libby Gilpatric, oil and watercolor paintings, note cards, prints, ornaments, fantasy painted boxes, and picture frames; Nancy Isherwood, oil and pastel paintings, lithographs, decoupage boxes and hand painted trays and note cards. Visiting artist Megan Buchanan will display hand painted scarves. Refreshments will be served.

Thanksgiving Day community dinner: The Portsmouth United Methodist Church will host a Thanksgiving Day dinner for anyone who wishes to break bread together and share fellowship on this special day. The complimentary meal will be served with all the trimmings from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 27. The meal will be prepared and served by volunteers from the church.
The community is welcome to join with the church family and share in this holiday dinner. The church is located at 2732 East Main Rd. Call (401) 683-4005 for more information.
Photography exhibit: Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Rd., is featuring a photo exhibit through Nov. 29. Entitled “Through Our Eyes,” the exhibit includes more than 30 photographs and features landscapes and close-ups taken at a number of Rhode Island and Massachusetts Locations, among them, a Dighton junkyard, an Attleboro Flower Shop, the Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary and aboard a Newport trawler. There are also landscapes from outside the area. photographers exhibiting are Dot Campbell, Murray Gintis, Anne Hunt, Robin LaCroix, Dan Logan, Steve Nadler, Dick Swanson and James Washington. The exhibit is on display in the Project Room and can be seen during library hours. For information, call (401) 683-9457.
