Two school officials to take seats
01:00 AM EST on Wednesday, November 22, 2006
PORTSMOUTH — Michael Buddemeyer and Jamie R.B. Heaney, newly elected members of the School Committee, will be sworn in Monday after all, just in time to take their seats at a meeting that is expected to decide whether the schools will sue the town to get more money.
The state Board of Elections has given the town Board of Canvassers permission to certify the results of four open seats on the School Committee, because those races were not related to a recount requested by a Town Council candidate, Mark Katzman, according to Town Clerk Kathleen Viera-Beaudoin.
The canvassers yesterday certified the School Committee election, prompting the president of the committee, Sylvia Wedge, to schedule the swearing-in ceremony for Monday. It will take place in the high school library just before the meeting at 7 p.m.
In addition to Buddemeyer and Heaney, both Republicans, incumbent Democrats E. Richard Carpender and Marjorie Levesque will be sworn in for another four-year term.
