Artistry, in a variety of forms

01:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 5, 2008

Dade Veron, technical director of the Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket, installs medieval jail bars on the set of Don Carlos, which opened yesterday at the theater. Don Carlos is set in 16th-century England, and is a political thriller with a scandal destined to destroy its main character, Sir Robert Chiltern. The show coincides with the 10th annual Pawtucket Arts Festival, which begins today and runs through Sept. 14. Tomorrow, as part of the festival, there will be dragon-boat racing at the School Street Pier in Pawtucket. Top left, the tail of one of the dragon boats as it sits in the Blackstone River, before being moved to the School Street Pier. Top right, the reflection of the Samuel Slater Canal Boat, which will take part in the festival, as it rests in the Blackstone River. For more information and tickets to the Don Carlos performances call (401) 723-4266.
