Twisted History: Slater Mill, 67 Roosevelt Ave., will host its second in a series of three Twisted History lectures Friday at 7 p.m. The Legacy of Corruption in the Ocean State explores Rhode Island’s colorful history of corruption. Guatemalan Textile exhibit: The Slater Mill Gallery, 175 Main St., Blackstone Valley Visitors Center, will celebrate the opening of its Guatemalan Textile exhibit Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. This event is free. The exhibit will run until April 18.
Walk it out Woodlawn: The Woodlawn Minority Health Promotion Center will host a health event, “Walk it Out Woodlawn,” Saturday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Community Center, 210 West Ave. The event will include a mile-long walk, a mini-health fair, cooking demonstration, and a live jazz band performance. Woodlawn residents are invited to take advantage of the services provided by the Woodlawn Minority Health Promotion Center. For more information, call (401) 475-7632.
Chopstick auction: The Dusza-Almeida Ladies Auxiliary VFW and the Burns Manor Association will co-sponsor a chopstick auction Sunday at Burns Community Hall, 95 Park St. Bids range from five cents to 50 cents with chopstick admission, $2. A flat rate of $20 is available, and includes admission for all items. The event will include raffles, a money tree, and free coffee and pastry. Doors open at noon, the auction begins at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Vacation week programs: The Boys & Girls Club, 1 Moeller Place, will offer a week of activities for children ages 6 to 12 during school vacation week. Programs will include a scavenger hunt, critters and creatures, a movie, a field day, and games in the pool. The fee for the week is $85 per child. Benefit event: LeFoyer will sponsor a benefit in support of the American French Genealogical Society Building Fund April 19 at LeFoyer, 151 Fountain St. The benefit, “Une Cabane a sucre,” will replicate events at a Quebec Sugar Shack. YMCA of Pawtucket will hold its Spring II session, April 20 to May 31. The facility offers an indoor heated pool, inflatable pool slide, fitness center, basketball court, computer learning center, cycling classes, rock-climbing wall, music room, teen center, steam rooms, racquetball courts, and youth fitness center. Trip scheduled: Parks and Recreation and Conway’s Bus Service are sponsoring a trip to Boston for a Duck Tour April 26. The bus leaves from the Lynch Arena at 9 a.m. and arrives in Boston at Quincy Marketplace for free time until 2 p.m. and continues on to the Science Museum for the Boston Duck Tour until 4:30 p.m. The bus returns to Pawtucket at 6 p.m. The cost is $43 and includes the bus and tour. Spring celebration: St. Leo the Great Church will hold its third annual Spring Celebration Dinner Dance and Auction May 3 at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick. This year’s event will be a celebration of 67 years of catholic education at St. Leo the Great School before it closes its doors in June. During this event, St. Leo’s faculty and staff will be honored. The evening will feature a full-course dinner, music, dancing, raffles, silent and live auctions. The reception will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner, dancing and the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35, adults only. Spring Carnevale: The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre invites arts supporters to Spring Carnevale, a Venetian-style festival and the theater’s sixth-annual fundraising event, May 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Pawtucket Armory, 172 Exchange St. Tickets are $100 per person, or $190 per pair. Guests are encouraged to bring their own carnival mask or purchase one at the door. The general public is invited to participate in an Italian-themed online auction at www.gammtheatre.cmarket.com, opening on April 18 and closing on May 10 at noon. Veterans funeral flag: The Parks and Recreation Department is continuing a program honoring veterans who have passed away. The department offers the opportunity to deceased veterans’ families to fly the veteran’s funeral flag over the Pawtucket War Memorial Scallop Shell in Slater Park. The flag will be flown for a two-month period and then returned to the family. Anyone interested in the program can call Bill Mulholland at (401) 728-0500, ext. 252 or stop by the Slater Park office.
Library Programs
Pawtucket Public Library, 13 Summer St., will host Hispanic poetry of travel, exile and immigration, a dramatic bilingual reading, during National Poetry month. The program will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the library auditorium.
The book discussion group will meet April 23 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. to discuss this year’s Reading Across Rhode Island book Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen. The program is free, no registration is needed.

School Note
Kindergarten registration: Pawtucket School Department will hold kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school year. Children turning 5 on or before Sept. 1 are eligible to register. Registration will be held May 5-9 from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. at each elementary school. Before any child registers for school, the following must be presented: Three proofs of residency showing your address (a driver’s license is not a valid proof of residency); a parent picture ID (may be a driver’s license); child’s birth certificate; immunization record with month, day and year of shots; and a letter from a doctor or clinic stating that the child has been screened for lead.
High School Reunion

Religion
St. Teresa Church, Newport Avenue, will hold a Mass of the Anointing of the Sick Sunday at 2 p.m. The Sacrament of the Sick will be given during the Mass to anyone who is facing surgery or treatments as well as those who are coping with serious or mental illness. All are welcome. Call the rectory by Friday at (401) 722-4470, if transportation is needed.
