Youthfest 2008: The annual Youthfest 2008 will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the VFW, School Street. This Rock Under the Pavilion competition is a musical opportunity for young people, ages 11 to 16. Food will be available for purchase. Proceeds will go to the North Smithfield Prevention Task Force Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit www.northsmithfieldtaskforce.org.

Summer concerts: Summer Sunday Concerts on the Common are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The schedule is: Stones River Band, Sunday; and The 3 Swingin’ Tenors, Aug. 3. Concerts are sponsored by North Smithfield Prevention Task Force in cooperation with Slatersville Congregational Church.

Feast of the Holy Ghost: The Holy Ghost Society will host the 69th Feast of the Holy Ghost Portuguese-American, Aug. 2 and 3 on VFW grounds, 98 School St. Ethnic dancers and the North Tiverton Band will perform Aug. 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. On Aug. 3, a procession from the VFW to St. John’s Church will be held, for a Mass at 9:30 a.m., followed by the traditional crowning. This year Richard Manning will be the honoree. A Portuguese-style meal will follow. A fundraising auction will begin at 1 p.m. The event will also include children’s entertainment, face painting and balloon animals.

Concert in the Courtyard: The Villa at Saint Antoine, 400 Mendon Rd., is hosting its annual Concert in the Courtyard series with Ocean State Chorus on Aug. 5. Concerts begin at 7 p.m., refreshments will be served. Guests are asked to bring a lawn chair. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors. Volunteers needed: The Great Pumpkin Festival will be held Sept. 20 at North Smithfield High School. Volunteers are needed to head festival committees, nonprofit groups are needed for booths, and financial donations are always welcome. Many booths are already confirmed, but festival organizers hope that every non-profit organization in town participates with a booth. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the North Smithfield Community Fund. Library Program

North Smithfield Public Library, 20 Main St., will host the romance novel discussion group July 28 at 6:30 p.m. The group will discuss Sex, Lies and Online Dating, by Rachel Gibson. You must read the book before the meeting. For more information, call (401) 767-2780.

School Note

North Smithfield Junior-Senior High School’s guidance department chairman William P. Pepin has announced that the school is in the process of clearing students cumulative record files for the Class of 2003. Anyone who graduated in 2003 and would like to obtain their folder may contact the guidance department at (401) 766-2503 prior to Aug. 15. After this date, the records will be destroyed.
