NORTH PROVIDENCE — A 46-year-old woman was charged with two counts of felony shoplifting Monday for allegedly taking four cases of infant formula valued at $149 from Shaw’s Market on Smithfield Road on two days.
The police took Christine M. Deady, 46, into custody after supermarket officials reported that a woman went to the back of the store on Sunday to pick up two cases of Enfamil and left without paying.
The following day, the store reported to the police that Deady requested two more cases of Enfamil and left the store without paying. That time, Deady paid for other purchases in the checkout line, but allegedly went through the line with the infant formula in the bottom of the carriage.
Deady was charged with the two counts of felony shoplifting and cited for driving with a suspended license, operating an unregistered vehicle and driving without evidence of insurance. She was ordered to the Adult Correctional Institutions pending the payment of $1,000 bail with surety. In another case, the police arrested Robin Greene of 5 Convent St., Providence, on one count of shoplifting after she allegedly walked out of the Shaw’s Market Monday with $170 worth of products.
A store loss prevention officer said Greene went to the store’s self-service lines with her three children and scanned in items valued at $11.56 before leaving the store with other items.
On Sunday, the police arrested Maurice Botelho, 34, of 1701 Smith St., on a charge of domestic simple assault and battery after he allegedly tried to choke a woman during an argument in his apartment.
The woman said that while she was being choked she and her assailant fell to the ground, allowing her to break free and call 911. She was taken to Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.
