NORTH PROVIDENCE — A Cranston man and his North Providence female companion are being held without bail on drug charges after their car was pulled over for speeding on Douglas Avenue.
Patrol officer Luis R. Rivera said the car’s registration did not match that of the white Cadillac that the two — Yevette Boulris, 40, of 15 Taft Ave., North Providence, and the driver, Donald J. Turchetta, 51, of 144 Curry Rd., Cranston — were riding in when their vehicle passed Rivera’s radar post at 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
After the two were stopped, Turchetta said he was in the process of purchasing the car through a dealer whose name he could not remember. Police subsequently determined that the last registered owner of the Cadillac was Boulris’ brother, listed at the same address.
The police searched the vehicle and said they recovered two knives, a purse with a bottle of pills later identified as the prescription drug Alprazolam and nine small bags containing powder later identified as cocaine. Both suspects said they didn’t know how the drugs got there.
In addition, while conducting a pat down search of Turchetta, the police said they found one Vicodin pill and a small blue tube with more cocaine.
The two suspects were each charged with possession of cocaine and three other charges of possession of a controlled substance and controlled substance conspiracy. Turchetta was also charged with driving while in possession of a controlled substance, speeding, possession of a concealed weapon, improper registration and operating a motor vehicle without evidence of insurance.
They were later brought before a justice of the peace who had them remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
