Fundraiser for the Providence Chargers: The Providence Chargers youth football and cheerleading teams will hold their first fundraising golf tournament on Sunday, July 27, with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. at Triggs Memorial Golf Course, in Providence.

Cost is $100 per person ($400 per foursome), which includes 18 holes of golf, gas cart and GPS yardage system. A barbecue will follow, featuring St. Louis ribs, chicken quarter, roast beef, Texas fries, corn on the cob and corn bread. There will be raffles throughout the event.

Ameriprise Financial is sponsoring a hole-in-one prize of $25,000 or a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Prizes will also be awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive.

The deadline to register is Sunday. Send payment to The Providence Chargers, 72 Barrett Ave., North Providence, RI 02904.

Tee sponsorships, gift certificates and raffle prizes would be appreciated. Donated prizes will be posted on the Web site, Freewebs.com/theprovidencechargers.

West Side Thursdays: Pendragon will perform tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dexter Training Ground, near the Armory, as a part of West Side Thursdays. Pendragon, which has performed in Rhode Island for 25 years, plays Celtic-inspired music, including original songs and dance tunes, on a combination of fiddle, flute, bouzouki, concertina, banjo, guitar, whistle and percussion.

The band includes step dancer and percussionist Kevin Doyle; Bob Drouin on fiddle, bouzouki and tenor banjo; Russell Gusetti on guitar and concertinas; Josh Kane on flute and whistles; and Mary Lee Partington on vocals and bodhran.

Past tributes include three straight Boston Music Award nominations for Outstanding Celtic Act and a Governor’s Tourism Award. Pendragon has been voted Rhode Island’s Best Celtic Act in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 MOTIF Magazine’s Best Music Poll. Pendragon has also been voted Best Local Folk Act of the Year in the Providence Phoenix’ Best Music Poll eight times.

The show will complement the Parade Street Farmer’s Market, which will offer fresh produce from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be vendors for henna, tarot and palm reading.

The event is free. All are welcome to bring blankets and picnics.

The following performances will complete the series:

•July 24 — B Sharp presents Mahi Mahi and special guest John Carpenter from Brooklyn (also includes local artists and crafters vendors).

•July 31 — “Dear Providence” by New Urban Arts, with puppetry, poetry, stop-motion film and more (also includes activities and vendors for children, families and their pets).

West Side Thursdays is a part of the “Celebrate Providence!” Neighborhood Performing Arts Series, presented and sponsored by the City of Providence; the Department of Art, Culture and Tourism; the Parks Department; the West Broadway Neighborhood Association B Sharp; Farm Fresh Rhode Island; and West Side Arts.

Benefit dinner: The public is invited to attend a dinner to benefit the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) next Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Pizzico Ristorante, 762 Hope St.

The event will feature free appetizers and a wine-tasting.

Diners contribute to WRWC any time during the evening when they mention that they are there for the benefit; order dinner off the Pizzico menu and 20 percent will be donated to the WRWC.

Wine expert Curt Richardson will lead a tasting of selected Pizzico wines at 6:30 p.m. A $10 minimum donation is required for the wine tasting, which entitles the holder to a chance to win one of three bottles from Richardson’s private collection.

WRWC board and staff members will be on hand to discuss the council’s current projects and plans, including the River Rangers Program, the Woonasquatucket Fish Passage Restoration Project and the Woonasquatucket River Greenway Project.

Vendors sought: Oasis International, 600 Broad St., is seeking vendors and craftsmen for the 15th annual African Summer Bash, on Saturday, July 26, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Richardson Park, on Prairie Avenue.

Tables are available for $25 to $50 for the day.

Farmer’s market opens: On Saturday, Farm Fresh Rhode Island and Southside Community Land Trust opened the Broad Street Farmers’ Market, at the Algonquin House, 807 Broad St., in South Providence. The market will be open every Saturday throughout the summer and fall, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fruits and vegetables are supplied by City Farm, Cotinho Farm, Mini Farm and Pak Express Farm. Cooking demonstrations are provided by the University of Rhode Island Family Nutrition Program and by Veggin’ Out, a program of the Johnson & Wales Community Service Center, sponsored by the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Department of Environmental Management.

Customers may use cash, credit cards and EBT/food stamps at the market. Those who wish to use a credit card or EBT card can purchase Fresh Bucks — farmers’ market tokens — at the Farm Fresh R.I. table. Fresh Bucks can also be purchased in the form of a gift certificate.

New Green Team members: GroundWork Providence recently welcomed Monique Cartwright, Chelsey DaCruz, Carlos De La Rosa, Jeffrey Farquhar, Shanice Goncalves, Joshua Martinez, Ja Tia Rollins, Aaron Soe and Raychell Weeden to the Mount Hope Green Team, and Keishanna Cardoza, Christine Cosenza, Daivon Kornegay, Wilmer Nunez, Rochelle Rodriguez, Luz Rosario, Rodney Stevens and Onelissa Martinez to the Southside Green Team. The 17 Providence youths were selected from 63 applicants.

Under the direction of Adewole Akinbi, the Mount Hope Green Team’s projects include weekly litter pick-ups around The Miriam Hospital, invasive species removal at Collyer Field, brush and trash removal for the Mount Hope Community Garden and garden construction and maintenance for the Mount Hope Learning Center.

Julia Van Dyke will supervise the Southside Team as they maintain affordable-housing lots for the City of Providence, clear out and build a new community garden at YarrowSport, assist the Southside Community Land Trust with neighborhood canvassing and conduct neighborhood clean-ups.

Together the teams will learn job skills from the National Park Service, including water-quality monitoring and public surveying; participate in educational programs related to Rhode Island urban environmental issues; construct new trails for YMCA Camp Sheppard, which caters to inner city children; and perform a cultural art piece at the Roger Williams National Memorial on Aug.14, under the direction of Hannah Resseger and Princess Garrett from the Mount Hope Learning Center.
