A chess club for adults and for children 6 and older meets the first and third Mondays of the month at Clark Memorial Library in Carolina.

Retired federal employees: The South County chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at Chianti’s Restaurant, 195 Forge Rd., East Greenwich, next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., when URI pharmacology professor Bill Ballou will be the speaker.
A luncheon will be served at 12:15. Reservations to that are required, and may be made by calling Fannie Boober at 884-0489, Tony or Joan Senape at 783-7367, Alan or Joan French at 294-2664 or Jessie Leonetti at 596-7387.
Bridge clubs: The South County Bridge Club organizes games of duplicate contract bridge each Thursday at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale.

Niemi leads supervised bridge sessions the second and fourth Saturday of the month, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Cross’ Mills Public Library, 4417 Old Post Rd., Charlestown. Players of all levels are welcome. Bridge games are played each Monday at 1 p.m.
Duplicate bridge games are played at the Narragansett Community Center, 53 Mumford Rd., Narragansett, each Monday at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

Chess club: Clark Memorial Library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, Carolina, hosts a chess club for adults and children age 6 and up, meeting the first and third Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m. To register, call 364-6100.
Newcomers groups: The South Kingstown/Narragansett Friends, a group for anyone new to the area, meets the second Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. at the Narragansett Community Center, 53 Mumford Rd., Narragansett. For information, call 788-1022.
Moms clubs: Clark Memorial Library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, Carolina, is the site of a Moms Club meeting the first Friday of the month, at 10:30 a.m.
Washington County Moms meets the first Monday of each month, at 10 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 2291 Kingstown Rd., Kingston. Children are welcome and a continental breakfast is served.

The Moms Club of South County meets the second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale.

Knitting clubs: A knitting group for all levels meets at Clark Memorial Library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, Carolina, the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
The Narragansett Senior/Community Center, 53 Mumford Rd., is the site of a knitting group each Thursday at 10 a.m. A knitting instructor is available with help the second Thursday of the month, for a $5 fee.
A group meets at the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, 35 Kingstown Rd., Friday from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Jamestown Philomenian Library, 26 North Rd., Jamestown, hosts a drop-in group for knitters of all ages, each Sunday at 1 p.m.
Quilting group: The Ninigret Quilters Guild meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, East Beach Road and Route 1, Charlestown.

Divorce support: A support group entitled “Life After Divorce” meets the second Wednesday of the month, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 8050 Post Rd., North Kingstown.
