NORTH KINGSTOWN — A foundation that fights drunken driving and substance abuse has received a $1,500 state grant, Sen. James C. Sheehan, D-Narragansett and North Kingstown, said yesterday.
The money will be used by the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation, which was created by Katie’s parents and family after 13-year-old Kaitlyn DeCubellis of Narragansett was killed by a drunk driver in 1999.
Sheehan requested the money during a recent General Assembly session.
The money will come out of the state budget, said Sheehan.
“This money will help make a difference in getting the message out about the dangers of substance abuse and driving under the influence,” he said.
“The foundation’s program,” he added, “is saving lives.”
