01:00 AM EST on Friday, November 10, 2006
NEWPORT — A hazardous materials team was summoned to Salve Regina University yesterday after a container labeled “anthrax” was discovered in a bathroom, according to the police.
Authorities, including Salve Regina security, sealed off the area of Miley Hall where the vial was found, said police Lt. Michael Brennan. A hazardous materials team from East Providence conducted tests and determined the substance in the container was harmless, he said.
The vial was discovered around 10:50 a.m. by a Newport policeman who had stopped in the building while on patrol, said Brennan. The area was reopened to the public by 3:30.
