The Friends of the Jamestown Philomenian Library, and the Jamestown Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, are giving local residents plenty of time to prepare for their quit-smoking New Year’s resolutions.
They have organized a quit the smoking habit program for Monday, Dec. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the library museum room.
The presentation is designed for those who may want to quit smoking as a New Year’s resolution, or for people who want to help someone else quit smoking.
The free program will bring together a professor of biomedical sciences, Robert Rodgers of URI; a coordinator of Jamestown’s substance abuse prevention task force, Laura Hosley, as well as a pharmacist, Tim Baker of Baker’s Pharmacy.
The program is open to the public. For information call 423-7281.
The Thanksgiving leftovers will hardly be packed away when members of the South County Art Association open the Helme House for the 36th annual holiday pottery and art show and sale which starts on Friday.
The show will continue throughout the weekend and Wednesdays through Sundays through Dec. 10. It will feature the work of more than 50 artists and will include functional and decorative pottery, ornaments, paintings, drawings, photographs, jewelry and cards.
The hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and Fridays until 8 p.m. The Helme House is located at 2587 Kingstown Rd., Kingston. For more information call 783-2195.
