Three concerts in two days at URI

Three concerts are scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston.

The URI Marching Band will present a concert in the Concert Hall at 8 p.m. tomorrow, under the direction of Brian Cardany.

On Sunday at 3, URI’s Opera Workshop will present an afternoon of staged scenes, while at 7, the URI Student Chamber Ensembles will perform a varied program.

The Opera Workshop will feature works by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Gluek and Rossini and will be under the direction of Rene de la Garza.

Eight chamber ensembles will perform Sunday evening. All three concerts will be held in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. Admission for the Ram Band and the Opera Workshop programs will be $8 and $2 for students. Admission to the Chamber Ensembles concert on Sunday evening will be free. Slocum Grange breakfast on the menu for Saturday

Slocum Grange No. 36 will hold its monthly breakfast on Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. at the grange hall, 96 Slocum Rd., North Kingstown.

The harvest-themed event will benefit the Jonnycake Center in Peace Dale.

The menu will include eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, French toast, cheese omelet, jonnycakes and beverages.

The cost will be $5 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 10.
