1. South County’s east coast on Narragansett Bay includes cumberlandite, a rock estimated by geologists to be about 1 1/2 billion years old. This rock has another name:

ANSWERS:

1 — d. Cumberlandite was originally called rhodose, but was renamed in 1966 when the General Assembly designated it the state rock. Its origin is in Cumberland, but thanks to glacial movements, scattered pieces can be found on both sides of the Bay and even on Block Island.
