Program on diversity: Davisville Middle School will host “Night of Awareness,” a program designed to raise awareness of the need for tolerance and acceptance of diversity, Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Guest speakers include Bernard LaFayette, a colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., co-founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in 1960 and director of URI’s Center For Nonviolence and Peace Studies; Alice Goldstein, a Holocaust survivor and community activist; Toby Ayers, director of the National Council of Community and Justice’s Rhode Island branch; and Nanda Shewmangal, its youth director. Also scheduled are discussion groups, musical and dramatic performances, student presentations and artwork.
Tex Mex dinner: The Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Council, 1265 Tower Hill Rd., North Kingstown, will serve a Tex Mex dinner of chicken fajitas, ranch beans, Spanish rice and tacos Saturday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Admission is $9, $5 for children 7 to 12, free to those 6 and under. Reservations are required, and may be made by calling 295-0507 by Thursday.
Museums open: Twenty-four historic sites from around the state will be open to the public Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. in celebration of National Preservation Month and Rhode Island Tourism Week.
“Thresholds . . . Step Inside History” will include open houses at Gilbert Stuart Birthplace & Museum, 851 Gilbert Stuart Rd., Saunderstown; Oliver Watson House, on Farm House Road in Kingston; the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society, 2636 Kingstown Rd., Kingston; Smith’s Castle, 55 Richard Smith Drive, Wickford; and the Westerly Armory, on Railroad Avenue in Westerly.
