The South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department will host a fishing derby for children age 14 and under on Saturday afternoon at Ninigret Park in Charlestown.

Toad program: Children age 3 to 6 will make a “Toad Abode” during a 45-minute craft program this afternoon at 2 at the Tri-Pond Park Nature Center, on Asa Pond Road in Peace Dale.

Fees are $9 for South Kingstown residents, $12 for others; to register, call the South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department at 789-9301.

Fishing derby: The South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a fishing derby for children age 14 and under, Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6:30 at Ninigret Park in Charlestown.

Registration is required, and may be made at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale, or by calling 789-9301.

Book swap: Children who bring old books and videos to the Neighborhood Guild Thursday or Friday, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., will receive vouchers to use during a swap Saturday. For information, call the South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department at 789-9301.

Truck program: Children in South County will be able to “Touch A Truck” Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wakefield Mall, on Old Tower Hill Road in Wakefield, sponsored by the Moms Club..

The fee is $10 per family for children to explore a variety of vehicles, including police cars, fire trucks and cement mixers. Also scheduled are karate demonstrations at 11a.m. and 1 p.m., and a their free child identification program.

T-ball: The South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring T-ball games for children age 3 to 5, with their parents, meeting Tuesdays, May 6 through 27.

Sessions will meet from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Fees are $27 for South Kingstown residents, and $32 for others; to register, call 789-9301.

Letter-themed program: Children will learn their letters during a weekly program meeting Monday, May 5 through June 9, with the exception of Memorial Day, at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale. The 45-minute sessions begin at 10 a.m.

Fees are $28 for South Kingstown residents, $35 for others; to register, call 789-9301.

Indoor gym: The South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department sponsors indoor gym sessions for children age 4 and under, with parents, at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale, each Monday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Fees are $1 for adults, 50 cents for children, free to those under 1. For information, call 789-9301.

Open story times: The Watch Hill Improvement Society Library hosts story times for all ages each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., and Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

Westerly High School students lead story times for children age 3 and up, each Monday at 1:15 p.m., and Friday at 10 a.m., at the Westerly Public Library, 44 Broad St., Westerly.

Children may bring their Teddy bears and “drop in” to half-hour story times each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., except school vacation week, at Clark Memorial Library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, Carolina.

The Willett Free Library, on Ferry Road in Saunderstown, conducts preschool story hours each Thursday afternoon at 5. For information, call 294-2081.

Storytime for children is conducted Monday and Friday at 10:15 a.m. at the Davisville Free Library, 481 Davisville Rd., North Kingstown, with stories and crafts are appropriate for ages 2 to 5.

An evening session is scheduled for March 12 at 6 p.m. For information, call Sarah Ornstein at 884-5524.

The Jamestown Library, 26 North Rd., Jamestown, conducts story hours each Wednesday morning, from 10:15 to 11 for two-year-olds, and 11:15 to noon for ages 3 to 5; Monday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for children age 2 and under; and Friday from 10:15 to 11 a.m., through March, for ages 2 to 4. All children must be accompanied.

Hope Valley’s Langworthy Library, 24 Spring St., conducts story hours each Wednesday and Friday, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Church story hour: The West Kingston Baptist Church, 263 Waites Corner Rd., West Kingston, is conducting weekly story hours for pre-school-age children and younger, with their mothers, led by Ruth Mlyniec and meeting Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30.

Each session of “Amma’s Story Time,” so named because “Amma” is a term for grandmother in several languages, will have a theme, and will feature a children’s book, a Bible story, an activity and snack. For information, call 789-0523.

Book groups: The Peace Dale Library conducts a book discussion group for students in grades 6 through 8 the first Thursday of the month from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. A group for children in grades 4 through 6 meets the last Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.

Children in grades 4 through 6 may join a book club at the Robert Beverly Hale Library. For information, call 783-5386.

The Cross’ Mills Public Library hosts “Reading Explorers,” which meets the fourth Thursday of the month, from 6 to 7 p.m., for children age 9 to 12. To register, call 364-6211.

The Jamestown Philomenian Library, 26 North Rd., Jamestown, hosts a book discussion group for children in grades 4 through 6, and their parents. The meeting May 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., will address The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed by Heather Vogel Frederick. To register, call 423-7280.

Sing-alongs: The Hopkinton Recreation Department sponsors sing-alongs for toddlers, accompanied by an adult, each Wednesday morning at 10 at its activities center in Crandall Field, Ashaway.

Anime club: The Jamestown Library, 26 North Rd., Jamestown, hosts an Anime club for teenagers to view and discuss animated Japanese films, meeting the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Knitting: The Westerly Public Library, 44 Broad St., Westerly hosts a knitting club for children in grades 6 through 12 each Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Yarn will be provided, but kids should bring their own knitting needles. For information, call 596-2877, ext. 2.
