Oil/sustainability meeting: The Kettle Pond Visitor Center, 50 Bend Rd., Charlestown, will host a community meeting on peak oil/sustainability, Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. On the agenda are discussions of Westerly’s Peak Oil Task Force, a South Kingstown community garden, a general discussion of southern Rhode Island’s future, and a screening of the film A Crude Awakening. Hopkinton Historical Association: This Sunday’s meeting of the Hopkinton Historical Association will feature 100-year-old Anna Coit of North Stonington, who will discuss the history of Hopkinton and North Stonington at 2 p.m. at the former Second Seventh Day Baptist Church, 2 Town House Rd., Hopkinton.

Foster parents group: The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families and the Rhode Island Foster Parents Association are hosting monthly evening get-togethers for foster parents in Kent and Washington Counties, with the next meeting May 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the DCYF’s North Kingstown office, 650 Ten Rod Rd., for a discussion entitled “Adoption: What Now?” For information, call 294-5350 or 438-3900.
Bridge clubs: The South County Bridge Club organizes games of duplicate contract bridge each Thursday night at 6:30 at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale. For information, call Bill Niemi at 783-3118, Mildred Mahoney at 783-3560, or Bea Sparks at 783-1588. Bridge lessons are also offered each Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the guild. Niemi leads supervised bridge sessions the second and fourth Saturday of the month, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Cross’ Mills Public Library, 4417 Old Post Rd., Charlestown. Players of all levels are welcome. Bridge games are played each Monday at 1 p.m.
He will also be teaching a bridge class at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, on Route 138 in West Kingston, meeting Monday from 3 to 5 p.m., May 19 through June 23. Fees are $60 for members, $70 for others; to register, call 782-1018.
Duplicate bridge games are played at the Narragansett Community Center, 53 Mumford Rd., Narragansett, each Monday at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. For information call Joan O’Connell at 369-4012.
Chess clubs: Clark Memorial Library, 7 Pinehurst Drive, Carolina, hosts a chess club for adults and children age 6 and up, meeting the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. To register, call 364-6100.
Newcomers group: The South Kingstown/Narragansett Friends, a group for anyone new to the area, meets the second Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale. For information, call 788-1022.
