Performance

Performance at inn: The theatrical group Theater of Thought will present TAPE by Stephen Belber, Friday through Sunday, at 8 p.m., at The Lighthouse Inn, 307 Great Island Rd., Narragansett.

Audience members will check in at the front desk and be given a key to the room where the play will be performed. Seats will be available inside the room, as well as in the interior courtyard. Tickets are $25; information and reservations are available at www.TheaterofThought.com.

Music

URI concert: Admission is free to a recital by students in the URI Preparatory Program’s junior division, Sunday afternoon at 1 in the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Rd , Kingston.

The box office opens 45 minutes before each concert.

Handbell concert: The New England Ringers handbell group will perform at Dunns Corners Presbyterian Church, 221 Post Rd., Westerly, Sunday at 5 p.m. Admission is $20, $5 for students; for reservations, call 322-0655.

Choral concert: The North Kingstown Community Chorus will present its annual spring concert Saturday night at 7:30, and Sunday afternoon at 3, at North Kingstown High School, 100 Fairway Drive, North Kingstown.

Admission is $10, free to children 6 and under. Donations to the North Kingstown Food Pantry will also be collected.

Musica Dolce performs: The Musica Dolce Youth String Ensemble, Festival Strings and Chamber Players will perform Sunday afternoon at 3 at the Westerly Armory, on Railroad Avenue in Westerly.

Featured will be pieces by Tartini, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi. Admission is $5, free to children.

Concerts in Jamestown: The Jamestown Community Chorus will present its annual spring concerts at the Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

The program will feature 18 pieces of choral music used in feature films, including Down to the River to Pray” from O Brother Where Art Thou? and Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” from A Clockwork Orange. Admission is $10, $7 for senior citizens and children. Tickets are available at the door, or in advance from chorus members and Baker’s Pharmacy, Jamestown Hardware and The Secret Garden.

Swing concert: Paul Hoffman will perform “Love Songs From The Swing Era” Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brightview Commons, in the Village at South County Commons, Route 1, Wakefield. Admission is free.

Benefit concert: “The Best Of Swing-From Sinatra To Sting” is the title of a 2 p.m. concert by students of Georgette Labreche, Sunday at Central Baptist Church, 16 Elm St., Westerly.

Proceeds will benefit the Jonnycake Center of Bradford’s Food Assistance program.

Exhibits

“Crossing Borders /Cruzando Fronteras” is the title of an exhibit on view through May 24 at Hera Gallery, 327 Main St., Wakefield. The exhibit includes work by a diverse group of artists, working in a variety of media, with images reflecting the experience of leaving home, crossing a border, and settling in a new place, as well as the controversy over immigration.

Museum hosts exhibit: “Art and the Natural World,” consisting of artwork and photographs showing special places in southern Rhode Island, is on view at Saunderstown’s Gilbert Stuart Museum, on Gilbert Stuart Road, May 5 through 26.

Photographers sought: South County Museum in Narragansett is soliciting work by area photographers, both amateur and professional, who will be asked to take photos of local scenes to contrast with pictures of the same spots already in the museum collection.

Fiber-themed show: Work by members of “FACE” (Fiber Artists on the Cutting Edge) will be on view at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, 3481 Kingstown Rd., West Kingston, through May 8.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The group, which formed in 1996, creates art quilts, wool felting, weaving, sculptural crochet, beadwork, machine felting, felted yarns, and wearable art.

Education exhibit: “Education for All: Schools and Schooling in South Kingstown, 1780-1920” is an exhibit featuring photographs, books, documents and artifacts from the collections of the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society, on display at the Old Washington County Jail, Route 138, Kingston, through Oct. 16.

The exhibit documents the establishment of a public school system in South Kingstown, through the 18th and 19th centuries.

Wickford show: The Wickford Art Association, on Beach Street in Wickford, presents “Reflections Old and New,” an exhibit of works by Rose Chase, Dan Urish and Janet Tobin, through May 14, In addition, Chase and Urish will present live demonstrations on Sunday during gallery hours; Tobin will be at the gallery May 11.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

URI exhibit: URI art professor Gary Richman uses the blossoming flower as a metaphor in “Toxitropes,” an exhibit on display in the Fine Arts Center’s Corridor Gallery through May 18. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Artists’ cooperative: The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly’s May show is an open regional exhibit, juried by Lisa Wolkow and David D.J. Rau, which will run today through May 25. An opening reception is scheduled for May 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The gallery, 12 High St., Westerly, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Art stroll: Westerly’s monthly art stroll runs from 5 to 8 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month, when downtown studios and galleries are open to the public.

Association members’ shows: The South County Art Association, 2587 Kingstown Rd., Kingston, hosts its annual juried clay exhibit, “Earthworks,” through May 10.

Entries may be dropped off May 8 through 11, between 1 and 5 p.m., for the association’s all-media open juried show, opening May 15 with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. and running through June 7. The fee is $12 each for members, $15 for others, with a limit of three entries.

Photography at library: A photography exhibit by Pocahontas Cooley, which will be on tour through the state over the next several months, will be at the Cross’ Mills Public Library, 4417 Old Post Rd., Charlestown, through May 3 during library hours of 1 to 8 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 1 to 6 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Native American exhibit: Exeter’s Tomaquag Museum, 390 Summit Rd., is hosting an exhibit, entitled “The Pursuit of Happiness: An Indigenous View.”

The exhibit was developed in response to the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities’ call for proposals looking at the Declaration of Independence’s claim of every American having the “inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It is a collaborative effort between Narragansett tribal leaders, Tomaquag Indian Memorial Museum professionals, historians and educators, who share their views on the notion of what happiness is today for the indigenous people of Rhode Island.

Also on view is a special exhibit entitled “Promoting Dialogue: Lessons Learned From Ellison ‘Tarzan’ Brown.” Brown, a Narragansett Indian, won the Boston Marathon in 1936 and 1939, and competed in the 1936 Olympics.

Rehearsals

Choir rehearsals open: The choir of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is open to high school students and adults, and rehearses at the church, 55 Main St., Wickford, Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m., prior to the morning service.
