01:00 AM EST on Friday, November 3, 2006
NARRAGANSETT — Free tours of the Endeavor, the University of Rhode Island’s research vessel, will be given from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the dock on URI’s Bay Campus, South Ferry Road.
The crew of the R/V Endeavor will host the tours in celebration of the Endeavor’s 30-year anniversary.
The vessel, which spends an average of 240 days a year at sea, has been involved in more than 400 scientific expeditions as far away as the Mediterranean and Black Seas and the Easter and Galapagos Islands.
Owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by URI’s Graduate School of Oceanography, the R/V Endeavor was delivered to URI’s Narragansett Bay Campus in 1976. Built in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., the ship underwent a major retrofit in 1993.
