“Pictures for Pleasure and for Profit: Images of South County, R.I., 1850s-1950s” will open on Sunday. at the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society’s gallery at the Old Jail, 2636 Kingstown Rd., Kingston.
The opening, from 2 to 4 p.m., will include paintings, drawings, photographs, prints and ephemera that captures the essence of life in the area from the 1850s to the 1950s.
The exhibit is thought to be the first to bring together a selection of images of South County during the hundred year span.
It will remain on exhibit through the winter months. The gallery is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 1 to 4 p.m. For more information call 783-1328.
Elizabeth Delude-Dix will show two films she directed about Rhode Island slavery at the Peace Dale Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. This event is the fourth and last installment in the library’s fall series on Slavery in Rhode Island.
The free event is open to the public. The library is at 1057 Kingstown Rd., Peace Dale. For more information, call 789-1555, ext. 112.
