MEMORIAL TREE SPREE: The 15th annual Ben Wilkie Memorial Tree Spree will be held Dec. 7 from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Wilbur School Gym, the Commons. Dozens of theme decorated Christmas trees and other items will be available to win. There will also be a craft and small business show running concurrently in the school commons adjacent to the gym. Anyone interested in donating a decorated tree or other item for the raffle or anyone interested in participating in the craft and small business show should contact Caroline Wordell, 635-2241.
All proceeds from the Tree Spree provide scholarships for local students, administered by the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of Little Compton.
During the Tree Spree the Sakonnet Clovers 4-H Club will offer horse and wagon rides around the Commons and the Village Improvement Society will have food available for purchase throughout the day.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: The Little Compton Community Center will host its annual Christmas Concert with Navy Band Northeast’s Brass Quintet Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. This year’s concert will begin with a special opening performance presented by the Little Compton Youth Christmas Choir. The concert is free and open to the public, however donations to the food bank will be collected. Refreshments will follow the concert.

ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAM: The Little Compton Community Center is proud to be a part of Little Compton’s “Adopt a Family for the Holidays” program. The center is collecting hats, mittens and gloves for all ages and sizes now through Dec. 22. New or handcrafted items can be dropped in a box in the center’s lobby.

BENEFIT ROAD RACE: The Little Compton Education Foundation will hold its 2009 Little Compton Scenic Winter Road Race & Walk Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. This 4.8 mile road race will start and end at the Wilbur McMahon School, the Commons. All proceeds from the race/walk will benefit the Little Compton Education Foundation (LCEF) and students at the Wilbur McMahon School.
This year’s race will include a number of people who will participate in the 4.8 mile run by walking the entire course. In addition, for those who would like to walk but don’t know if their children are able to complete the course, a portion of the race will be a shortened route around Pike’s Peak in the Commons area and will be offered as a Kids Fun Run/Walk.
Following the event, all participants are invited to warm up in the school gym with hot chocolate and other goodies. To register, visit www.lceducationfoundation.org. Long-sleeve commemorative t-shirts are guaranteed to the first 250 registrants, as available thereafter. The online registration fee for runners is $18 until Jan. 8 or $18 by mail (postmarked no later than Jan. 5). The registration fee will be $20 on race day. Checks are made payable to the Little Compton Education Foundation.
Prizes will be given to the top three men and women as well as the top two winners in the following race categories: Junior (19 & under); Open (20-39); Master (40-49); Senior (50-59); Veteran (60-69) and Little Compton (full time, permanent residents).
