Summer concerts: Lincoln’s summer concert series will kickoff Saturday at Chase Farm Park. Concerts are held on Saturdays at 6 p.m. unless stated. The schedule is: Saturday, Kings Row; July 26, The American Band; Aug. 9, Pendragon; and Aug. 23 at 5:30 p.m., Mike Lyons and The Blue Moon Orchestra. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Refreshments will be offered as fundraisers for various local organizations.
Open house: Lincoln’s historic stone mansion Hearthside on Great Road, will be open for tours Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Volunteer guides in period costume will tour guests through the 10-room house, while telling of its storied past. Visitors may want to make it a full day by packing a picnic supper and blanket and heading next door to Chase Farm Park where the first concert of the summer season will take place. Both the open house and the concert are free of charge.
Playground program: Lincoln parks and recreation provides a supervised playground program for youngsters in grades 1 to 8 at the five major parks from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include baseball, kickball, basketball, informal games, special events, arts and crafts, and weekly field trips. Senior swim notice: The pool at CCRI in Lincoln is closed until July 14 for maintenance. No senior swim will be held until July 14.
Business seminar: Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce will present a seminar titled “Building a Winning Team,” July 16 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the chamber office, 6 Blackstone Valley Place. Book-report work session: Family Literacy Center in Manville is offering book-report work sessions. Children must read their book and have their questions ready. Library Programs
Lincoln Public Library, Old River Road, will host a program on New England’s most endangered wildlife, tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. with Todd McLeish. Todd will talk about life cycles and the threat wildlife is currently facing, along with his own personal adventures in the wild with biologists studying and protecting these creatures. This presentation is geared towards teens and adults. Copies of Todd’s book Golden Wings and Hairy Toes: Encounters with New England’s Most Imperiled Wildlife, will be available for purchase.
The summer session of book buddies will begin Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will run on consecutive Fridays through Aug. 8. Each week teen readers, age 11 to 18, will meet with little book buddies, age 3 to 8. One-on-one reading is ideal, but no more than two little buddies, will be assigned to a teen reader. Both groups should register by calling the library.
The library will host its Senior Moments program Friday at 10 a.m. Seniors are invited to share memorable moments. The program will also include summer songs, games, stories, and an ice cream social.
