01:00 AM EST on Thursday, November 13, 2008
JOHNSTON — Firefighters yesterday afternoon quickly knocked down a fire in a storage room at Johnston High School that was reported shortly after classes let out for the day. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
About 20 firefighters responded to the school, at 345 Cherry Hill Rd., in response to a box alarm at 1:45 p.m., about 15 minutes after dismissal. It took only 10 minutes to extinguish the fire in the storage room, next to the former woodworking shop at one end of the building, said Battalion Chief Arthur Moretti Jr.
Moretti described the damage to the cinder block-walled room as minimal.
