Pollard announces run for House District 40 seat

01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Scott M. Pollard, a lawyer and a member of the Foster Zoning Board of Review, has filed as a Democratic candidate in House District 40, encompassing Foster, Glocester and Coventry.

The seat is held by Rep. Nicholas Gorham, a Republican.

Pollard said he opposes a proposal by Gorham that 5½ towns in western Rhode Island be consolidated into one “supertown,” to be known as Westconnaug.

“I oppose any attempt to throw the history of the towns of Foster, Glocester and Coventry out the window,” Pollard said.

He also asserted that the towns he proposes to represent “deserve a fresh voice — not petty politics.” He said he would support local tax relief and added, “I will maintain our conservative rural values.”

Pollard, who lives at 20 Tray Hollow Rd., Foster, received a law degree from Pace University School of Law, White Plains, N.Y., in 2002. In 2001 he received a master’s degree in finance from the same institution. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in psychology from Roger Williams University, where he graduated in 1998 magna cum laude.

He has a law office in Scituate. He formerly was an associate attorney with the Hadlock Law Office in Warwick.
