Time to cut bait
01:00 AM EST on Wednesday, November 22, 2006

John Littlefield, owner of Archie’s Bait & Tackle, in Riverside, was busy early this month taking apart a large walk-in freezer in the back of his shop, which has been at 285 Bullocks Point Ave. for 21 years. “I’m moving about a mile down the street, and I’m taking this expensive air-conditioning unit with me,” he says while carrying air-conditioner parts from the freezer, where he keeps dozens of kinds of bait, from sand eels to green crabs, to butterfish and squid. “See that 45-pound striped bass on the wall — it was caught by a loyal customer who said ‘You’re a bait shop — you need a fish on the wall.’ A fellow from Ludlow, Mass., mounted it. He did a beautiful job," Littlefield adds.
