Central Falls school losing its principal

EAST PROVIDENCE — Elizabeth Legault, principal of Calcutt Middle School in Central Falls, has been chosen as principal of East Providence High School.
In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the School Committee chose Legault over two other finalists.
Her career has straddled the two cities’ school systems. She was a teacher at Central Falls High School and left to be an assistant principal at East Providence High. She then returned to Central Falls to take the job as principal at Calcutt.
She was involved in controversy this year. In June, she alleged that former Central Falls Supt. Patricia Watkins had harassed her and called her a racist. In an affidavit, Legault lists disagreements she had with Watkins over the hiring of teachers, reprimands Watkins has given her and a bad evaluation she received from Watkins, among other things.
A lawyer hired by the Central Falls Board of Trustees is investigating the charges.
The other finalists for the principal’s job were assistant principal Raymond C. Lombardo and Mario Andrade, an assistant principal at Rogers High School in Newport.
Legault will replace Edward Daft, who becomes assistant superintendent on Dec. 1.
