EAST PROVIDENCE — A Bristol Avenue man, struck by a car Saturday morning as a police officer watched, was reported in fair condition at Rhode Island Hospital last night.
Nicholas T. Valletta, 25, of 41 Bristol Ave., was waiting to cross Willett Avenue when Patrolman Jeffrey Mace, traveling northbound on Willett, stopped to let him cross in the crosswalk.
After Valletta stepped off the curb, he was struck by a minivan traveling southbound driven by Jessica L. Flodin, 29, of 96 North St. He hit the grille and hood of the car, and shattered the windshield, according to Mace.
Traffic was tied up for about 90 minutes while Valletta was taken by rescue to the hospital and investigators went over the scene.
As of yesterday, no charges had been filed against Flodin but the case is still under investigation and the police would be interested in hearing from any other witnesses, said Lt. Stephen Enos.
