Cumberland District 3 council primary hopeful Simoes to seek fiscal restraints
CUMBERLAND — Democrat Paul Simoes, of 21 Barberry Hill Rd., is running for the District 3 Town Council seat, saying that the current council is increasing local government spending at a time when many residents are cash-strapped.

Mostly Democratic primaries Tuesday
Tuesday’s Democratic primary between former Mayor David S. Iwuc and incumbent Mayor Daniel J. McKee could decide the third round of the battle to be Cumberland’s mayor. There also are Democratic primaries for at large, District 1, District 3 and District 5 Town Council seats. The area’s only Republican primary is the race for the District 5 Town Council seat.

Plane makes emergency landing in Cumberland
A small airplane made an emergency landing in an empty field in Cumberland near Nate Whipple Highway at about 8:30 yesterday morning. The only person aboard, a Tiverton pilot, was uninjured, the police said.
